During the first meeting of the Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub consortium held on November 28th, ITER presented the activities and services provided in the field of #TIC and #high performance computing infrastructures, held on November 28.

The fifteen organizations that make up the consortium of the Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub (CIDIHUB) met in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to begin the presentation and organization of their services and operations. In July 2022, CIDIHUB was recognized, thanks to its level of excellence, as one of the European Digital Innovation Hubs of reference (called EDIH or European Digital Innovation Hub), becoming part of the European #EDIHs. network.

The Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub held an initial internal meeting to activate its operations and services in the Archipelago. The purpose of this group is to strengthen the Canarian economy through digitalization, following the mandate of the European Commission. In this sense, CIDIHUB seeks to become the meeting point for suppliers and organizations that benefit from its services, mainly SMEs, with the purpose of generating cooperation networks both on the islands, and collaborating with other nodes of digital innovation throughout Europe.

For three years, the project will be co-financed by the European Union and the National Government. Additionally, the Government of the Canary Islands will contribute to strengthening the development of the hub by promoting the design and execution of technological actions that promote the digitalization of the Canary Islands, and encouraging the emergence and development of disruptive technologies in the regional market. Specifically, some of the key areas that will be addressed with these items are cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or cloud computing.

The CIDIHUB consortium is coordinated by the Innovalia Association and the following are part: the Institute of Technology of the Canary Islands, the Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands, the Canary Islands Technological Excellence, the Technological Center of Marine Sciences (CETECIMA), the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN), Avantalia Soluciones, the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER), the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the University of La Laguna, the Economic Promotion Society of Gran Canaria (SPEGC), the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife, the Technology Park of Fuerteventura and the Canarian Confederation of Entrepreneurs (CCE).

During this first meeting, all partners had the opportunity to present their organizations and the actions that each are currently developing in this area, adding value to CIDIHUB’s service portfolio. Specifically, ITER´s Technology Area coordinator presented the activities and services the Institute provides in the field of ICT infrastructures and High performance computing , along with the activities that will be carried out in the work packages in which ITER is coordinator. In the meeting, each work package was introduced together with the services that will be offered to the beneficiary organizations activating the internal work mechanisms. In the upcoming months, the updated service portfolio will be released, along with new and renewed communication channels and numerous training and dissemination actions with which to contribute to the mission of strengthening the digitalization of the Canarian economic sector.
