The project was presented as best practice at the Sustainable Mobility and Climate Week 2022 in Dakar (Senegal) and has been published in the Virtual Climate Action Map of the Climate Chance web-page.

The Sustainable Mobility and Climate Week 2022 (SMDC) is an international event promoted by the Association “Cooperation for the Development and Improvement of Urban and Peri-urban Transport” (CODATU) and the “Climate Chance” Association, with the collaboration of the Executive Council of Urban Transport of Dakar (CETUD). The event, forerunner of the #COP27, was held from 3 to 7 October 2022 in Dakar, bringing together 1,500 actors and experts related to mobility, energy and climate from 40 different countries. During the event, many workshops and plenary events were held, offering the opportunity to share the challenges of sustainable mobility and promoting climate action in African territories. It should be noted that During the SMDC 2022, the specific session of the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharian Africa can be highlighted. In this session, the most urgent problems of climate change at the local level in the region were addressed, such as adaptation to Climate Change through energy efficiency.

Within the framework of this international event, a “Pich Corner” session was organized, where experts from the sector presented the projects and initiatives previously selected by the Organizing Committee as Best Practices of projects and initiatives related to Climate Change and energy, which could be replicated on a large scale in Africa. MACLAB-PV was one of the 56 projects selected from among the more than 200 submitted, for its contribution to the improvement of R+D capacities and infrastructures related to renewable energies and energy efficiency in Senegal.

The MACLAB-PV project was presented as Best Practice in the Pitch Corner of SMDC22 on October 6 by the Senegalese partners of the project: the Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches sur les Energies Renouvelables (CERER – University of Dakar) and the Agence pour l’Economie et le Maîtrise de l’Energie (AEME). The presentation (in French) is available at the following link.

In addition, the project has been integrated into the Virtual Climate Action Map of the “Climate Chance” portal (Cartography for Climate Action), both in French and English. This platform highlights climate initiatives carried out globally, identified as best practice by Climate Chance.

The MACLAB-PV project “Improvement of R+D+i capacities and infrastructures in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector of the Canary Islands and Senegal” is co-financed by the Territorial Cooperation Program INTERREG Madeira-Azores-Canarias (MAC) 2014-2020 and its main objective is to promote the excellence and applicability of scientific and technological activity in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector, contributing to the sustainable development of the regions of the Canary Islands and Senegal.

This recognition and the participation of the MACLAB-PV project in this international event of reference in Africa, is a milestone for its international visibility and has allowed the establishment of contacts with relevant agents of the sector and with other R+D Centers, as well as the reinforcement of the capacities of the Senegalese technicians and researchers of the project.
