Overview of the project

By taking advantage of the region’s resources and proximity to the sea, ports in the Atlantic Area can transform into digitised renewable energy “laboratories”, supplying clean electricity to ships and their concessionaires, as well as connecting and testing renewable energy prototypes.

ENEPORTS proposes three demonstration pilots, in the ports of Ferrol, Granadilla (Tenerife), and Leixões (Porto), to demonstrate how digitalization and artificial intelligence can help manage energy flows efficiently; and will explore new decarbonisation strategies using hydrogen and a device combining wave, current, solar and wind power generation.

By addressing administrative requirements, economic, social, and environmental impacts, as well as technical challenges, ENEPORTS aims to facilitate the deployment of hybrid systems with different energy sources and varying energy demands.
