ITER organizes a Seminar on energy transition for the island’s municipalities

It will be held on November 23 and registration is free and can be done through https://www.iter.es/genera/.

The Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables, under the auspices of the Cabildo de Tenerife, is organizing, within the framework of the European GENERA project, the seminar “Energy Transition in Tourist Islands: the challenge of Tenerife”, which will be held on November 23rd at the ITER facilities in Granadilla de Gran Canaria.which will be held on November 23rd at the ITER facilities in Granadilla de Abona.

The activity is part of the Genera project, co-financed by the European LIFE program, which aims to help public authorities in Europe to shift towards a more sustainable and low-carbon economy. To this end, it focuses on two main aspects: first, to support municipalities on tourist islands in the creation and implementation of their energy transition plans, in line with EU objectives and the Covenant of Mayors and, secondly, to promote the measurement and monitoring of progress in the energy transition.

In this context, ITER organizes this seminar with the support of the Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies Area and the Office of Renewable Energies, to bring together the municipalities participating in the Covenant of Mayors with the purpose of sharing their best practices, experiences and challenges encountered in this path towards sustainability.

The seminar will include the intervention of Fidel Vázquez Benito, Second Deputy Mayor of the City Council of El Rosario, with a presentation on the Local Energy Community “El Rosario Solar”; and Raquel Palenzuela García, Head of the Environmental Sustainability Service of the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, who will share the Current Situation of the Municipal District of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

On behalf of the GENERA project consortium, Clara Andrada Monrós, Senior Research Technician at the Energy Engineering Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, will give a training session on the phases and monitoring of the Climate and Sustainable Energy Action Plans (PACES) through the management platform “My Covenant”.

The Seminar will take place in the Auditorium of the ITER Visitor Center, where registered attendees will be able to benefit from the participation of GENERA project partners, who will be on the island of Tenerife to participate in the third meeting of project partners. It will be a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, establish connections and collaborate in building a more sustainable future for the island.

Attendance at the seminar is free of charge and advance registration is required through the website https://www.iter.es/genera/ where you will also find the complete program and additional information on the event.
