The magazine “INTERREG Programs in the Outermost Regions” has recently been published by the INTERREG Program in English and French.

The SOSTURMAC project, co-financed by the European INTERREG MAC 2014 – 2020 program and aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and heritage conservation in the Canary Islands and Cape Verde, has been included as a Good Practice in the aforementioned publication, following the selection process carried out by the Common Technical Secretariat of the INTERREG MAC Program, being one of the four projects selected from among the 123 projects approved in the 1st and 2nd calls of this European program.

The publication showcases the achievements of the INTERREG Outermost Regions projects selected as Good Practice, including concrete data on the main results achieved. This publication has been developed and edited in French and English for greater visibility, and will be disseminated in the communication channels of this EC support program, as well as in European events in the field of cooperation.

he publication has been edited in English and French and is available for viewing and/or downloading at the following links:

INTERACT’s objective is to ensure the exchange of experience, information and innovation to promote best practices and facilitate cooperation. To this end, they develop events, publications and specific tools. Their services are aimed at cooperation programs under the European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) objective of the Cohesion Policy 2014-2020 – known as INTERREG. These programs jointly address common challenges and find shared solutions in fields such as health, environment, research, education, transport, or sustainable energy.

SOSTURMAC, completed in 2021, was conceived with the main objective of revaluing the natural and architectural heritage of the Canary Islands and Cape Verde, from an energetic and environmental point of view, favoring its conservation and providing added value to its sustainable and cultural tourism offer. To this end, preservation, conservation, enhancement, promotion and dissemination measures were carried out.

The excellent results achieved by the project and the effort made to achieve adequate transnational cooperation and to adapt activities to regional needs have been reflected in the international recognition that the project has received. SOSTURMAC has been highlighted on 15 occasions as a Good Practice or replicable experience by reference entities, and has also obtained funding from UNESCO for the development of awareness-raising activities in Cidade Velha, a World Heritage City located in Cape Verde.
