ITER is the main partner in the RENATURMAC project and INVOLCAN in the GEOTERMAC project. ITER also participates as a partner in the PRISMAC, PLANCLIMAC 2 and IMPLACOST projects.
These projects are funded under the 1st call of the Territorial Cooperation Program INTERREG VI-D Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands (MAC) 2021-2027. The RENATURMAC and GEOTERMAC projects are led by ITER and INVOLCAN, respectively. These projects have started their execution after the signing of the ERDF grant contracts. Each one has a budget of more than 2 million euros and officially started on October 25, after the Start-up Event held in the Assembly Hall of the Presidency of the Government, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In addition to RENATURMAC and GEOTERMAC, ITER also participates as a partner in three other projects approved in this call: PRISMAC, PLANCLIMAC 2 and IMPLACOST.
These five projects aim to address key challenges for the MAC region (Madeira, Azores and Canary Islands), focusing on the restoration of natural ecosystems, the development of renewable energies and the improvement of climate resilience. RENATURMAC, led by ITER, will focus on the regeneration and conservation of protected natural areas, while GEOTERMAC, led by INVOLCAN, will promote research and the use of geothermal energy as a renewable source in the region.
The projects in which ITER participates as a partner are oriented to climate change adaptation, risk prevention and resilience. PRISMAC will be dedicated to the analysis, mitigation and management of the risk of slope movements enhanced by climatic alterations in Macaronesia. PLANCLIMAC 2 will work on the development and monitoring of coordinated actions in the region to address climate change risks and hazards, while IMPLACOST will assess environmental impacts in coastal and littoral zones due to climate change.
Through these initiatives, ITER and INVOLCAN reinforce their commitment to sustainability, technological innovation and territorial cooperation within the framework of the INTERREG MAC 2021-2027 Program.
