STIRPE – TOWARDS AN INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM IN URBANIZATIONS AND PEDESTRIAN AREAS
The project is framed within the Challenge ‘Intelligent, Sustainable and Integrated Transport’, listed in the framework document ‘Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2013-2020’. It aims to advance in the solution of the difficulties that currently prevent autonomous vehicles from being a viable alternative to conventional transport. In this sense, the project establishes three main objectives:
- To establish and validate a testing environment for autonomous vehicles
- To improve sensing systems, with the common denominator being to undertake the fusion of heterogeneous information sources and the devices separately.
- To advance in aspects of sustainability and energy efficiency. The problem of providing a service by means of a fleet of these vehicles is considered.

In order to achieve these objectives, this project is proposed in a coordinated manner with a team composed of:
- GRULL, Robotics Group of the ULL.
- CICEI, Information Center for the Information Society.
- ITER, Technological and Renewable Energies Institute.
