Project overview
The overall objective of the NATURDRON project is to develop a low-cost system that automatically allows the control of forests, being capable of carrying out forest inventories, obtaining different characteristics of the forest mass that forms them.
The proposed solution consists of a drone with a high-definition camera implemented, so that, after capturing different images taken during the drone’s flight, they are processed, obtaining, thanks to the developed algorithm, the different characteristics of the forest mass, which will form a forest inventory.
The proposed solution consists of a physical device and a digital platform that will allow for obtaining forest inventories at a low cost. The physical device will consist of a drone with a high-definition camera as the main components, and will be responsible for capturing images of the forest area to be controlled, and sending them to the digital platform, where they will be processed and analyzed, obtaining the characteristics of the forest that will allow for the compilation of a complete forest inventory. In addition, from this platform, the client will be able to access all this information in a simple and convenient way
With this, NATURDRON introduces two innovations: a control of the forest’s condition by obtaining a complete and precise forest inventory in an automated way, and an information management system on the forest’s condition (Digital Platform), which would be delivered as a service to an end client.
The Consortium that will develop NATURDRON is composed of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables, S.A. (project leader) and the Universitat Politècnica de València, which will provide the project with multidisciplinary teams of experts in all the areas integrated into the project.
The budget for the NATURDRON project is 639,279.45 €. A balanced budget allocation between the partners has been planned to ensure the technical and economic viability of the project at all times.
The project will be divided into the following activities, which will be performed during the three temporal milestones or annual phases into which the project is divided (2018, 2019, and 2020):
