MACLAB-PV, a European project to improve research excellence in renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Canary Islands and Senegal.

From December 13 to 16, several coordination actions and public launching of the results of this cooperation project, co-financed by the INTERREG MAC Program and in which CERER and AEME participate as Senegalese partners, will take place.

The MACLAB-PV project “Improvement of R&D&I capacities and infrastructures in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector in the Canary Islands and Senegal” is a project led by a Canary Islands public entity, the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies – ITER, and has as Senegalese partners the Center for Studies and Research on Renewable Energies (CERER) and the Agency for Energy Economics and Management (AEME). It is co-financed by the Interreg Madeira-Azores-Canarias Territorial Cooperation Program (MAC) 2014-2020 and its main objective is to promote excellence and applicability of scientific and technological activity in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector, contributing to the sustainable development of the regions of the Canary Islands and Senegal.

The MACLAB-PV work agenda for this week will begin on December 13 and 14, with the participation of the partners in the presentation day of the projects in Senegal funded by the second call of the INTERREG MAC Program 2014 – 2020 – Strategic Project HEXAGONE (HEXAGONE ).Presentation day of the projects approved with Senegal in the second call of the INTERREG MAC 2014-2020 program. Strategic Project HEXAGONE) to be held at the Terrou-Bi Hotel. Within the framework of this event, representatives of ITER, CERER and AEME will present the main results achieved so far by the project during the working session on December 14.

On Thursday, December 15, the MACLAB-PV Technical Conference “R& D+i in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency in Senegal”(Journée technique MACLAB-PV ” R& D+idansles domaines des énergies renouvelables et de l ‘efficacité énergétique aux Canaries et au Sénégal” ) will be held at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar.D+i dans les domaines des énergies renouvelables et de l’efficacité énergétique aux Canaries et au Sénégal“), given jointly by CERER and AEME, and addressed to university students, teachers and researchers. The objective of the conference is to present the advances in the R&D lines of the partners, which have been reinforced by the MACLAB-PV project, through training actions for researchers and the acquisition of scientific equipment. In this sense, the event will include the public launch of the new mobile laboratories created within the framework of the MACLAB-PV project: the Renewable Energy Field R&D&I Laboratory linked to CERER’s LCQS laboratory; and the Energy Efficiency Field R&D&I Laboratory (LAVE – SENEGAL), linked to AEME’s LNE Laboratory. This new scientific equipment will allow quality control and certification of photovoltaic systems and luminaires to be installed in Senegal, respectively.

On the other hand, on Friday, December 16th, the ITER researcher assigned to the MACLAB-PV project, Mr. Carlos González Montesdeoca, will give in the CERER headquarters the Conference “R+D+i in the area of renewable energies in the Canary Islands (ITER) – Perosvkite”, addressed to researchers of this center, dependent on the University of Dakar, as well as to researchers and collaborating students. This researcher leads the R+D+i line “Manufacturing of photovoltaic solar cells based on perovskites in a clean room environment” launched within the framework of the project and whose results have been exhibited at international level.

In parallel, during December 15 and 16, meetings and working visits will be held between the partners, with the aim of maximizing the results of the project, coordinating the actions to be developed until the end of the project in September 2023, and preparing future actions to ensure the consolidation of the cooperation established between the participating R&D Centers.

The MACLAB-PV project is obtaining excellent results, contributing to the specialization of the scientific community in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector in the Canary Islands and Senegal, and thus to their sustainable development. It has recently been internationally recognized as a good practice of interest for its replicability on a large scale in Africa, being presented as such in the Sustainable Mobility and Climate Week 2002 (“Semaine de la Mobilité Durable et du Climat 2022”), held in Dakar; and integrated in the virtual Climate Action Map of the “Climate Chance” portal.
