Project overview

The OVERALL OBJECTIVE of M3-CONTROL is to develop a low-cost solution for the control of groundwater extractions, through the remote reading of flow meters at extraction facilities, and that also makes this information available to potential clients through a remote digital platform. The solution may be commercialized as a service that would allow the extraction holder to fulfill the obligation to periodically communicate the extracted flow rates to the control body, while the latter will have a key tool for the management of the water resource in its region.

The proposed solution consists of a kit that is installed on the flow meter of the extractions to be controlled and a Big Data digital platform hosted in the cloud through which a service is offered that will allow the extraction holder to fulfill the obligation to periodically communicate the extracted flow rates to the control body, while the latter will have a key tool for the management of the water resource in its region for the administration.

M3-CONTROL introduces two key innovations in the field of groundwater extraction control: the first is the monitoring of groundwater extractions, through continuous recording and without human intervention, at a low cost to the client through the instrumentation of the existing flow meter; and the second is the creation of an information management system on the flow rates extracted from groundwater wells, which is delivered as a service to the end client.

The Consortium that will develop M3-CONTROL is composed of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables, S.A. (project leader) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, which will provide the project with multidisciplinary teams of experts in all the areas integrated into the project.

The budget for the M3-CONTROL project is 636,666.88 €. A balanced budget distribution among the partners has been planned to ensure the technical and economic viability of the project at all times.

The project will be divided into the following activities, which will be performed during the three temporal milestones or annual phases into which the project is divided (2018, 2019, and 2020):
