The technology center TECNALIA visited the ITER facilities accompanied by the company EAVE.
The three entities met to discuss the possibilities of collaborating and promoting new projects aimed at contributing to achieving a climate-neutral Europe by 2025.
Both ITER and TECNALIA are centers with extensive experience in the development of R&D projects that have also been characterized for being reference centers for companies, especially for newly created companies such as EAVE. Both entities have extensive experience in technology transfer to the business network.
During the meeting, the projects related to photovoltaic energy and storage technologies were mainly discussed. In these fields, ITER has a wide experience having installed more than 42 MW of photovoltaic power, which generate an annual average of 68 GWh. ITER has its own photovoltaic cell characterization laboratory where new lines of research have been opened to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic technology by investigating the use of new alternative materials to silicon such as perosvkite. On the other hand, ITER is launching combined renewable generation and storage projects in which it counts on the wide experience of ITER’s electronics department, which is a pioneer in the Canary Islands in the development of inverters, power converters and storage technologies, having two battery banks in operation in the entity.
This meeting has been a starting point to detect common interests that will be the starting point to initiate cooperation and transfer projects between the three entities.
