ITER receives the Directorate General of Organic Coordination and Strategic Projects of the Government of the Canary Islands

During the visit, the strategic projects currently being developed by the institute and with the greatest potential for the Canary Islands were presented.

ITER received yesterday the General Director of Organic Coordination and Strategic Projects of the Canary Islands Government, Mr. David Pérez-Dionis. During the meeting, ITER shared the strategic research projects in which it is currently working.

The visit focused on the projects developed in the field of renewable energies and geothermal energy, as well as in the area of satellite technology, supercomputing and robotics, in addition to the novelties in quantum and genomic research, sectors with great potential for the Canary Islands. The presentation was led by the CEO of ITER Ms. Begoña Ortiz Lestón and presented by the coordinators of the different areas, the heads of the Genomics Department José Miguel Lorenzo and Carlos Flores, the Director of the Engineering Area Jesús Rodríguez Álamo and the head of the Robotics Department Jorge Ballesteros Benítez de Lugo.

After the presentation of the projects, Mr. David Pérez Dionis was able to see first hand the Genomics laboratory of ITER and the solar drones of the robotics area.

It is worth mentioning the special interest shown by the Deputy Minister in the development work being carried out in the field of genomics, given its possible application for the improvement of health care for the Canary Islands population.
