ITER, in collaboration with the University of La Laguna, receives an expert in energy transition from Croatia.

Professor Vedran Kirincic, from the University of Rijeka, visited ITER and its facilities with ITER researcher Carlos González Montesdeoca.

The Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables (ITER), together with the University of La Laguna (ULL), has welcomed Professor Vedran Kirincic, an expert in energy transition from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka, Croatia.

The visit, held on September 23, was requested by Professor Benjamín González Díaz from the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of La Laguna (ULL) who accompanied Professor Vedran during the visit. The collaboration with the Department of Industrial Engineering of the ULL has been strengthened in recent years thanks to the MACLAB-PV project, since this project has improved the research infrastructures of the photovoltaic department and has contributed to the training of its research staff. The results of the research lines, launched within the framework of the project and developed in collaboration with the departments of industrial engineering and specific didactics of the ULL, have been published in several scientific articles and shared with the scientific community through international events such as the EU PVSEC.

During his visit to ITER, Professor Kirincic toured several key infrastructures, including the photovoltaic cells laboratory, optimized thanks to the MACLAB-PV project. In this laboratory, research is being carried out on improving the stability of photovoltaic cells based on Perovskite, a more efficient, accessible and less expensive material than silicon, traditionally used in the manufacture of solar panels.

In addition, the Croatian professor visited the supercomputing facilities and the renewable energy generation control center of ITER, as well as some of the photovoltaic generation plants, specifically the self-consumption plant installed on the roof of the D-Alix Datacenter.

Vedran Kirincic is an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka, Croatia. He is a specialist in energy transition, developing plans focused on the decarbonization of the transport sector through the electrification of the vehicle fleet, the promotion of electromobility and the implementation of renewable energy sources and energy storage solutions. During his hearing, he highlighted the key role of institutions such as ITER in promoting the transition to a low-carbon economy, underlining the importance of international collaboration to address global energy challenges.
