CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION (CEDEI)
In the Canary Islands, and particularly on the island of Tenerife, there are a series of infrastructures that can serve as catalysts for a change in trend in economic activity. The deep crisis of recent years has revealed the weakness of an economy based on a limited set of activities, concentrated basically in the ‘services’ and ‘construction’ sectors.

In addition to the infrastructures, there is the high level of training in higher vocational training degrees and in the Canary Island universities. This suggests that it is possible to propose a change in the productive model oriented towards a knowledge economy, and the intensive application of Information and Communication Technologies. That is, there is an opportunity to promote a software development and telecommunications industry that provides services to the exterior.
In this context, the development of a work program that promotes the generation of employment based on these types of industries has been positively valued, as a first step towards the development of a growing economic activity in the ICT sector.
The project, funded by the Excmo. Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, has as its main objective to launch software application development services, based on a training and employment program.
In summary: improvement and adaptation of professionals’ skills to the demand and requirements of high-value technology companies, minimizing difficulties in accessing the labor market and maximizing the possibilities of being part of the digital transformation process of the business world. Hence, the need to launch the Center of Excellence for Development and Innovation (CEDeI).
This action has been developed by ITER from 2015 to 2020, co-financed by the MEDI-FDCAN Program 2016-2025 and included within the Island Development Strategic Framework (MEDI) 2016-2025 of the Island Council of Tenerife.
Currently, the Center of Excellence for Development and Innovation (CEDeI) is managed by the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife (PCTT). For more information: https://www.intechtenerife.es/cedei/
