The wind tunnel facilities at ITER have been chosen by Bound4Blue as the location for conducting aerodynamic tests of their rigid suction sail systems for large vessels. The Institute of Technology and of Renewable Energies (ITER), an entity dependent on the Tenerife Island Council, hosted aerodynamic tests in its wind tunnel for Bound4Blue during the month of October. Specifically, the tests conducted are aimed at optimizing the suction area in the design of their rigid suction sail systems for large vessels. ITER’s wind tunnel facilities have been chosen by Bound4blue as the site for aerodynamic testing of its rigid suction sail systems for large vessels. The Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER), an entity under the Cabildo of Tenerife, has hosted during the month of October the aerodynamic tests in its wind tunnel for the company Bound4blue. Specifically, the tests carried out are aimed at optimizing the suction area in the design of their rigid suction sail systems for large vessels. Bound4blue has been working for years on the research and development of suction sail propulsion systems. This type of…
This is a recognition for the efforts made over the last 30 years to contribute to the improvement of volcanic surveillance, surface geothermal exploration, and, in general, geosciences and environmental studies in the Canary Islands, as well as in other regions of the world. Nemesio M. Pérez Rodríguez, the scientific coordinator of the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (INVOLCAN) and the director of the Environmental Area at the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER), has been honored with the Christiaan Huygens Medal from the European Geosciences Union (EGU) in its 2024 edition. This medal is a recognition for…

The institute will participate, with the projects MACLAB-PV and GENERA, in this scientific-technological dissemination event to bring research closer to students of secondary school, high school and vocational training. The Institute of Technology and Renewable Energy (ITER), an entity under the Cabildo of Tenerife, participates once again in the Science and Innovation Weeks in the Canary Islands, which celebrate their nineteenth edition from 13 to 22 November with the main objective of bringing scientific and technological advances to the Canary Islands citizenship. The MACLAB-PV and GENERA projects will be the main thread of the activities organized by ITER in this…
Between 27th August and 7th September the Shelios 2023 expedition tool a group of researchers and students at the south of Iceland and Greenland, where they set up two experiments to measure the natural darkness of the arctic night, and from where they broadcast the aurora borealis. Among the apparatus they installed is the autonomous MiNiO (Meteo Nano Observatory) controller, developed by the Technological Institute for Renewable Energies (ITER), for the Interreg EELabs project, coordinated by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC). As well as making people aware of the problems of light pollution, and amplifying the legislation with…

In addition to raising public awareness of the problem of light pollution and extending legislation on the protection of the night sky…
The study presents significant advances in the understanding of the explosive dynamics of the Tajogaite volcano during the 2021 Eruption. A new paper on the temporal variability of explosive activity at Tajogaite volcano, Cumbre Vieja (Canary Islands), during the 2021 eruption from ground-based infrared photography and videography has just been published in the prestigious international scientific journal Frontiers in Earth Science. This work, promoted by the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (INVOLCAN) and led by Janine Birnbaum, researcher at Columbia University (USA), involved researchers from INVOLCAN, the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energy (ITER), and the Istituto Nazionale di…
