MASSIVE SEQUENCING LABORATORY The Genomics area facilities are divided into two sections: the Molecular Biology laboratory, located in ITER’s main building; and the supercomputing infrastructure, located in the NAP building. The laboratory is distributed in three properly compartmentalized rooms: the Molecular Biology laboratory itself, the sequencing room and the office area. Thus, the workflow in the Genomics area begins with sample preparation in the Molecular Biology laboratory, continues with massive sequencing in the sequencing room, and data processing on the teideHPC supercomputer, and ends in the office area, where the data are processed by the scientific team of the Genomics…

At present, ITER has three active Wind Farms: the Experimental Platform of 2.83 MW, the MADE Wind Farm of 4.8 MW and the Enercon Wind Farm of 5.5 MW. All of them are in the process of repowering. In the near future, three new wind farms will be installed, which obtained power in the last tender called by the Government of the Canary Islands. Experimental Platform of 2.83 MW Since its installation in 1990, the Experimental Platform has produced a total of 74 GWh. The Experimental Platform of 2.83 MW was financed in collaboration with several organizations (ITER, Cabildo de…
Fulfilling its foundational objectives and taking advantage of the window of opportunity opened by the different existing energy policies, ITER has made an important effort to promote the development of Renewable Energies in the island. Thus, particularly in the case of Photovoltaic Solar Energy, since 2005 ITER has contributed to the installation of about 41 MW in generation plants, either in property or for third parties acting as promoter, installer and maintainer. From the technical point of view of the grid connection, it is worth mentioning the inverters used, model TEIDE 100, with 100 kW of power each, designed and…
ITER has a series of weather stations that measure meteorological parameters of wind, solar radiation, humidity and temperature. The Meteorological Station “Torre” is located at UTM coordinates 351180.54-3105916.74 at an elevation of 34 meters above sea level. All sensors are placed along a metal lattice tower of approximately 45 meters high. At the top of the tower, coinciding with the height of the wind turbine hub, is the WindSonic sonic sensor that measures wind direction and speed. The remaining sensors (cup anemometer, wind vane, and humidity and temperature sensors) are located at a height of 25 meters. On the other…
Photovoltaic laboratory – LabCelFV The ITER Photovoltaic Laboratory, known as LabCelFV, is a cutting-edge scientific and technological facility designed to contribute to the development and strengthening of new manufacturing techniques for crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells and new materials. Its dimensions and modular nature give it flexibility and adaptability to new processes, such as research with new materials for use in photovoltaic technologies. The main research lines have been developed in the field of photovoltaic cells based on crystalline silicon. In addition, a new research line has been initiated focusing on the study of emerging materials, specifically those that, due to their…
ITER offers an electric vehicle charging area with 17 parking spaces and a total of 23 charging points, making it the largest electric vehicle charging platform in the Canary Islands. The facility provides free public access and is powered by 100% renewable energy. Among its infrastructures, the site features two fast charging points in direct current (DC), each with a power output of 50 kW, equipped with CHAdeMO and CCS Combo 2 connectors. These fast chargers can recharge up to 80% of a vehicle’s battery in a short time, providing approximately 100 kilometers of driving range in just 15 minutes,…
ITER, aware of the importance of disseminating knowledge among the society about renewable energies and the role that technological infrastructures can play in the field of training, has carried out the design and development of a Technological Demonstration Unit of Renewable Energies. This unit is intended to be a didactic tool to help teachers in the theoretical and practical training in the field of renewable energies. The Renewable Energy Technological Unit consists of didactic equipment to demonstrate the operation of different types of renewable energies in isolation and/or integrated into a network. It is made up of the following components:…
The Visitor Centre is part of the ITER dissemination facilities, together with the Paseo de Energías Renovables, and is the work of the winning architect of the 25 Bioclimatic Dwellings competition, César Ruíz – Larrea. This bioclimatic building, which is characterised mainly by its integration into its surroundings, welcomes visitors to the Institute and has an exhibition area that aims to draw the visitor’s attention to the energy issue and the main projects and activities of ITER. The centre also has a conference room with a capacity for 200 people equipped with two simultaneous translation booths and a projection booth,…
This facility, opened in 1998, is an initiative devised and developed by ITER and the Tenerife island council. It is an outdoor themed trail dedicated to renewable energies and situated within a gully that traverses the Granadilla industrial estate, next to the ITER headquarters. The main aim of the trail is to raise public awareness of renewable energy and related concepts, such as energy saving and the careful use of resources, all experienced within the actual surroundings of the ITER complex. The trail, all outdoors, features an array of equipment and practical scaled examples of the various types of renewable…
