ITER is visited by a dozen researchers from the Indian Ocean

The Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables (ITER), received last November 10, 2023 the visit of a delegation formed by a dozen researchers from universities in Madagascar, Mauritius and Comoros Islands, interested in learning about the latest advances in renewable energies.

The visit to ITER has been organized in collaboration with the University of La Laguna (ULL) through Professor Ricardo Guerrero, who together with Benjamín González, Juan Albino Méndez and Francisco Ramos, participate in the Erasmus+ teacher mobility program, with the objective of exchanging knowledge and generating new research strategies in the destination countries, which is why the delegation is now making a return visit to this university.

In parallel, the universities of La Laguna, Reunion and the Azores are also participating in the FESTII Project (Training in Higher Education for Energy Transition in Island and Indian Ocean Territories) to help researchers in the Indian Ocean islands to equip their universities with renewable energy studies.

The main objective of the visit to ITER was for the group to get to know a renewable energy research center at full capacity and in all its stages: energy production and control, photovoltaic cell characterization laboratories, module factory, battery accumulation systems, etc.

Accompanied by research personnel assigned to the MACLAB-PV project, during the visit they were able to learn first-hand about the main results of this project, which aims to optimize the scientific, technological, demonstration and innovation infrastructures and capacities existing in the Canary Islands and Senegal, aspiring to excellence in research and innovation in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector.

As part of its program of scientific and technical visits to the island, the group had the opportunity to visit, in addition to ITER, the observatories of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias in Izaña and a spin-off company of the ULL that is responsible for helping to start up energy communities, both for individuals and companies.

This delegation of researchers and professors visit the island of Tenerife and its main research centers, in order to learn how to establish new university studies on energy in their countries, as well as to promote entrepreneurship in order to achieve a successful energy transition.
