Project overview
The 24-ES-DIG-SAT-TEL project aims to design and install an open satellite telecommunications platform, including a satellite control center located in Tenerife. This infrastructure is conceived as a next-generation teleport, capable of providing ground segment services to multiple satellite telecommunications operators and enabling global connectivity to and from the Canary Islands.
The teleport will integrate SOC (Satellite Operations Center) and NOC (Network Operations Center) services and will be designed to operate with GEO, MEO, and LEO constellations, creating a hybrid network with wide coverage, low latency, and high capacity. Thanks to its connection to high-speed terrestrial networks and its future integration with ITER’s HPC systems, the platform will strengthen Europe’s capacity for access to, operation of, and exploitation of telecommunications and Earth observation satellite constellations.
The project includes feasibility studies, infrastructure design, civil works, procurement and installation of antennas and equipment, deployment of operational software, ground segment testing, and preparation for the start of operations. Its impact will be strategic for Atlantic connectivity, the technological positioning of the Canary Islands, and the reinforcement of European autonomy in satellite communications.
