The Seminar will take place on November 23 and registration is free and can be done through https://www.iter.es/genera/

The Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies, under the Tenerife Island Council, organizes within the framework of the European project GENERA, the seminar “Energy Transition in Touristic Islands: the challenge of Tenerife,” which will be held on November 23 at the ITER facilities in Granadilla de Abona.

The activity is part of the Genera project, co-financed by the European LIFE program, which aims to assist public authorities in Europe in transitioning towards a more sustainable and low-carbon economy. It focuses on two main aspects: first, supporting municipalities in touristic islands in the creation and implementation of their energy transition plans, in line with EU objectives and the Covenant of Mayors; and secondly, promoting the measurement and monitoring of progress in energy transition.

In this context, ITER organizes this seminar with the support of the Department of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies and the Renewable Energies Office, to bring together the municipalities participating in the Covenant of Mayors with the purpose of sharing their best practices, experiences, and challenges encountered on this path towards sustainability.

The seminar will feature the participation of Fidel Vázquez Benito, Deputy Mayor of El Rosario City Council, with a presentation on the Local Energy Community “El Rosario Solar”; and Raquel Palenzuela García, Head of the Environmental Sustainability Service of Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, who will share the Current Situation of the Municipal Term of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

On behalf of the GENERA project consortium, Clara Andrada Monrós, Senior Technician in Research at the Institute of Energy Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, will offer a training session on the phases and monitoring of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) through the “My Covenant” management platform.

The Seminar will take place in the Auditorium of the ITER Visitors Center, where registered attendees can benefit from the participation of GENERA project partners, who will be on the island of Tenerife to participate in the third project partners’ meeting. It will be a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, establish connections, and collaborate in building a more sustainable future for the island.

Attendance to the seminar is free and prior registration is required through the website https://www.iter.es/genera/, where the complete program and additional event information are also available.
