The Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables participates in the Digital Innovation Hub of the Canary Islands.

ITER presented the activities and services it provides in the field of #ICT infrastructures and #supercomputing, at the first meeting of the Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub consortium, held last November 28.

The fifteen organizations that make up the Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub (CIDIHUB) consortium met this week in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to begin the presentation and organization of its services and operations. In July 2022 the CIDIHUB was recognized, thanks to its level of excellence, as one of the European Digital Innovation Hubs of reference (called EDIH or European Digital Innovation Hub) becoming part of the European network of #EDIHs.

The Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub held an initial internal meeting to activate its operations and services in the Archipelago. The purpose of this group is to strengthen the Canary Islands economy through digitalization, following the mandate of the European Commission. In this sense, CIDIHUB seeks to become the meeting point for suppliers and organizations that benefit from its services, mainly SMEs, with the purpose of generating cooperation networks both in the islands, as well as collaborating with other digital innovation hubs throughout Europe.

For three years, the project will be co-financed by the European Union and the State. In addition, the Government of the Canary Islands will contribute to strengthening the development of the hub by promoting the design and execution of technological actions that boost the digitalization of the Canary Islands, and fostering the emergence and development of disruptive technologies in the regional market. Specifically, some of the key areas that will be addressed with these items are cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or cloud computing.

The CIDIHUB consortium is coordinated by Innovalia Association. And they are part of it, the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, the Clúster Marítimo de Canarias, Canarias Excelencia Tecnológica, the Centro Tecnológico de Ciencias Marinas (CETECIMA), the Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias (PLOCAN), Avantalia Soluciones, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables (ITER), the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Universidad de La Laguna, the Sociedad de Promoción Económica de Gran Canaria (SPEGC), the Parque Científico y Tecnológico de Tenerife, the Parque Tecnológico de Fuerteventura and the Confederación Canaria de Empresarios (CCE).

This first meeting allowed all partners to present their organizations and the actions they already perform in the field, adding value to the CIDIHUB services charter. Specifically, by the hand of the coordinator of the Technology Area, ITER presented the activities and services provided in the field of ICT infrastructure and supercomputing, as well as the planning of activities in the work packages in which ITER is coordinator. Likewise, each of the work packages was introduced with which to start offering the services to the beneficiary organizations and to activate the internal work mechanisms. Over the coming months, a more detailed service charter, new and renewed communication channels, as well as numerous training and dissemination actions will be presented to contribute to the mission of strengthening the digitization of the Canary Islands economic fabric.
