Public presentation of the documentary “CUMBRE VIEJA, a land forged by fire”.

The documentary, which will be presented at the International Environmental Film Festival of the Canary Islands, has been produced thanks to the VOLTURMAC project, co-financed by the European Commission through the Territorial Cooperation Program INTERREG VA Spain-Portugal MAC 2014-2020.

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in commemoration of the Day of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, the documentary “CUMBRE VIEJA, a land forged by fire” will be presented in society at 5:45 pm.

The presentation will take place within the framework of the 25th edition of the International Environmental Film Festival of the Canary Islands (FICMEC) to be held in the municipalities of Garachico from May 26 to 30, 2023 and in Buenavista del Norte from June 2 to 4, 2023, becoming a showcase to promote environmental cinema and highlight the natural heritage of the region.

The 30-minute documentary “CUMBRE VIEJA, a land forged by fire” was directed by Pedro Felipe Acosta, considered one of the best nature documentary filmmakers in Spain. The documentary was produced by Alas Cinematografia S.L. and was made possible thanks to the support of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables (ITER),

The production of this documentary has been made possible thanks to the VOLTURMAC project (MAC2 / 4.6c / 298) led by the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (INVOLCAN) and co-financed by the European Commission through the Territorial Cooperation Program INTERREG VA Spain-Portugal MAC 2014-2020.

The objective of this project is to contribute to strengthening the conservation, protection, promotion and development of the natural and cultural heritage associated with the volcanic phenomenon in Macaronesia, through volcanic tourism and the diversification of the tourist offer in the four archipelagos of Macaronesia.

“CUMBRE VIEJA, a land forged by fire” offers a unique and fascinating insight into the history and geological formation of Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands. Through breathtaking images and testimonies of experts in volcanology and geology, the documentary invites viewers to immerse themselves in the volcanic past of the region and to appreciate the beauty and fragility of the natural environment.
