Fulfilling its foundational objectives and taking advantage of the window of opportunity opened by the different existing energy policies, ITER has made an important effort to promote the development of Renewable Energies in the island. Thus, particularly in the case of Photovoltaic Solar Energy, since 2005 ITER has contributed to the installation of about 41 MW in generation plants, either in property or for third parties acting as promoter, installer and maintainer.

From the technical point of view of the grid connection, it is worth mentioning the inverters used, model TEIDE 100, with 100 kW of power each, designed and manufactured by ITER. As for the support structures of the modules, they have also been designed by ITER. They are light structures made of anodized aluminum, totally modular and dismountable, basically composed of pillars, beams and purlins.

All plants are controlled by a complete remote monitoring and control system, designed and implemented by ITER. They are also attached to the Generation Control Center (CCG-ITER) since July 1, 2011, and in compliance with RD 1565/2010, they have a Certificate of Conformity of Response to Voltage Dips, issued by AENOR.

Among the most important projects are the following:

The SOLTEN I platform is a photovoltaic solar platform located on land in the Granadilla Industrial Park. This platform consists of 130 photovoltaic plants of 100 kW nominal power, independently connected to the low voltage electrical grid. Each of these installations belongs to a different owner, with ITER acting as promoter, installer, manager and maintainer.

Another case of success has been the installation owned by Solten II Granadilla, S.A. with 308 shareholders, where ITER, in addition to being co-owner, acts as promoter, installer, manager and maintainer of the installation.

In addition, installations for third parties, both grid-connected and stand-alone, totaling 2.1MW, have been carried out.

Facilities in third countries

Within the framework of its International Cooperation projects, ITER has also executed in other countries different renewable installations, mainly photovoltaic. In most of these projects, ITER is in charge of the technical visits, the design of the installation and the supply of the necessary materials, as well as the elaboration of training materials for the local company awarded the installation works in the field. Subsequently, ITER carries out the validation and monitoring of the installation. These installations are specifically designed taking into account the peculiarities of energy supply and consumption in each country / region.
