CANALINK – CANARIAS SUBMARINE LINK

Canalink, one of the companies belonging to the ITER group, is the owner of a submarine fiber optic cable system that links the Canary Islands with the Iberian Peninsula and the west coast of Africa. It also has exchange agreements with other operators and participates in submarine cable consortiums with the aim of interconnecting Europe with Africa and turning Tenerife, and more specifically the D-Alix data processing center, into a massive neutral traffic exchange center.

Underwater network

The submarine network is formed by the links that connect Tenerife with Cadiz, Tenerife with La Palma and Tenerife with Gran Canaria. These links allow Canalink to sell both capacity and point-to-point circuits between the main islands of the Canary archipelago and the Iberian Peninsula.

In turn, the link with the Iberian Peninsula has a branch line that connects Cadiz with Morocco and is used exclusively to provide service to the largest operator in Morocco.

All cables are equipped with the latest technology, carrying lambdas or channels up to 100G, allowing Canalink to take full advantage of the available bandwidth.

Canalink is also an active participant in the WACS and ACE submarine cable consortia, providing connectivity to most countries on the West African coast, Paris and Lisbon.

Technical centers and submarine cable stations

Canalink has points of presence in the Canary Islands through its technical centers and submarine cable stations designed to accommodate third parties in its technical rooms.

All systems and infrastructure are redundant. Generating sets, rectifiers with battery banks in duplicate (A+B), UPS (A+B), precision air conditioning and remote monitoring and management systems are available, making Canalink’s centers perfect sites for other operators to house their equipment.

In the peninsula, it also has two large cable stations with the same characteristics as its mirror centers in the Canary Islands and, in addition, through its terrestrial network, the service is extended to several of the most important centers in Seville, such as Telvent’s CPD in Seville. Also, on demand for the moment, services could be delivered in Madrid.

Internationally, Canalink’s main point of presence is Telvent Lisbon, a data center reached through the WACS and ACE submarine cables.
