Project overview
The CAMBIOS project aims to capitalise on and transfer a comprehensive environmental monitoring system, developed and validated by the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energy (ITER) in the Canary Islands, for implementation in vulnerable urban environments in Praia (Cape Verde) and São Tomé (São Tomé and Príncipe). The system, based on environmental sensors and a digital platform for real-time data visualisation, will be adapted to local realities to improve energy efficiency, comfort and resilience to climate change.
CAMBIOS es uno de los 16 proyectos seleccionados para CAPITALIZACIÓN DE RESULTADOS DE PROYECTOS INTERREG MAC ANTERIORES, en concreto, de los proyectos SOSTURMAC (INTERREG MAC 2014 – 2020 – 1ª Convocatoria), en el que el ITER desarrolló herramientas y metodologías de análisis de datos ambientales; y MACLAB-PV (INTERREG MAC 2014–2020 – 2nd Call), in which it developed environmental quality and natural ventilation monitoring protocols (“Zero CO₂”). The project also builds on ITER’s extensive experience in technological innovation, data analysis, and urban sustainability.
The system will be modernized and validated at the Living Lab CV ITER in Tenerife before its transfer, incorporating training activities and practical workshops to ensure effective, sustainable implementation that can be replicated in other vulnerable urban contexts such as Praia (Cape Verde) and São Tomé (São Tomé and Príncipe). By adapting the system to local realities, training local actors, and ensuring its sustainability through practical training, CAMBIOS not only highlights the value of already validated technologies, but also promotes climate resilience in urban communities exposed to environmental risks, favoring its replicability.
