SINPROMI and ITER recognized by the Cabildo de Tenerife in the 1st Public Innovation and Best Practices Awards

The “Online Volunteering” program, implemented by both entities, was one of the winners in the first edition of these awards, to which 23 nominations were presented by the island administration and local corporations.

The Sociedad Insular para la Promoción de las Personas con Discapacidad (SINPROMI) and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energía Renovables (ITER), have won first place in the I Premios de Innovación Pública y Buenas Prácticas del Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, in the category of best practices already implemented, for the“Online Volunteering” program.

With this award, the Cabildo of Tenerife recognizes the work carried out by both entities for the implementation of the “Online Volunteering” program, a project that provides digital support to third sector entities that carry out their social work on the island to improve their management.

“Online Volunteering” arose in the context of the social emergency generated by the COVID-19 pandemic to help coordinate, among others, the Zero Quota Food Distribution program through which food is distributed to families with school-age children who have limited economic resources through primary schools throughout the island.

ITER and the Volunteer Office of the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program, managed by SINPROMI, have jointly developed this program in which the Department of Education of the Canary Islands Government, the company GMR and 27 volunteer organizations from all over the island were also involved, making it possible to distribute over 15,000 baskets among 7,400 students from 191 schools on the island. This initiative has ensured that 27 food distribution entities have this tool for organizing food deliveries and a digital transformation project has been designed to help the entities in their digitalization process.

The presentation of the Public Innovation and Best Practices Awards took place last Friday, March 17 at the Auditorium of Tenerife within the framework of the I Meeting of Public Innovation and Best Practices, an event launched by the Cabildo of Tenerife in which more than twenty innovative projects that improve the quality of public services provided to citizens were presented.

The recognition to the “Online Volunteering” program, collected by the coordinator of the Engineering Area of ITER, Jesús Rodríguez Álamo, and the responsible of the Tenerife Isla Solidaria Program, Beatriz Sicilia Afonso, representing SINPROMI, was delivered by the Insular Director of Modernization of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Daniel González Morales, in the presence of other authorities and representatives of different administrations.
