The public companies Sinpromi and ITER and the General Foundation of the ULL signed the agreement today (Monday 27).
The Cabildo de Tenerife and the University of La Laguna (ULL) are launching the Digital Transformation Observatory, an initiative attached to the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program that will bring together resources of good practices to be used by volunteer organizations on the island. The agreement was signed today (Monday 27) by the Councilor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero; the Councilor for Innovation, Research and Development, Juan José Martínez; and the Rector of the ULL, Francisco García, and will be developed through the Island Society for the Promotion of People with Disabilities (Sinpromi), the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energy (ITER) and the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna (FGULL). The event was also attended by the CEOs of Sinpromi and ITER, Adal García and Begoña Ortiz, respectively.
Águeda Fumero explains that “Sinpromi carries out the volunteer service on the island of Tenerife attributed to the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program with the aim of promoting, strengthening and raising awareness about island volunteering and the associative fabric. The program has six strategic axes, among which is the Digital Transformation. This project, which is called ‘Digital Transformation, an opportunity for Social Development, Sustainability, Resilience and Networking for Volunteer Organizations on the Island of Tenerife’, aims to promote their digital transformation and volunteer action”.
“Among the actions of the Digital Transformation project is the creation of the Digital Transformation Observatory, which is a resource that will be available to all volunteer organizations. For this we will provide 25,000 euros from Sinpromi and we will have the collaboration of ITER and the University of La Laguna for its development,” says Fumero.
For his part, Juan José Martínez indicates that “ITER has participated intensively in collaborative projects with Sinpromi on the use of Information and Communication Technologies in improving the quality of life of society with the intention of generating a multiplier effect in the work of support and assistance of Sinpromi to different groups of people with special needs or at risk of social exclusion. In this sense, we have developed a pilot experience in the generation of technological tools to support Third Sector entities, called ‘Online Volunteering Program’, which has continued over time in order to propose and design the program of Digital Transformation of Volunteering on the island of Tenerife. With this agreement what we do is to establish synergies between Sinpromi and ITER and the University of La Laguna to bring technology closer to the volunteering entities so that they can adapt to the new times”.
The rector of the ULL, Francisco García, explains that the University and its General Foundation will provide the research team that will develop the activities and will provide the necessary computer equipment and software for the processing and analysis of the information obtained.
