Project overview

VOLTURMAC (MAC2/4.6c/298) is a project financed by the INTERREG V A Spain-Portugal MAC 2014-2020 Territorial Cooperation Programme.

The general objective of VOLTURMAC is to contribute to the strengthening of the conservation, protection, promotion and development of the natural and cultural heritage associated with the volcanic phenomenon in the Macaronesia region through the promotion of volcano tourism.

This project aims to analyse, evaluate and identify the potential of volcano tourism in the Macaronesia, create tourist itineraries and geo-routes that enhance the natural and cultural resources of the volcanoes in the Macaronesia and promote and strengthen training on natural and cultural resources related to the volcanic phenomenon in the tourist sector of the Macaronesia.

Specific objetives (SO) and activities

SO 1:Analyse, evaluate and identify the potential of volcano tourism in the Macaronesia region.

Actividad 2.1.1  – SWOT analysis on the volcano tourism in the Macaronesia region.

Actividad 2.1.2  – Identification, characterization, mapping and valuation of places of geological-geomorphological interest (LIGs).

Actividad 2.1.3  – Selection of the most representative LIGs, best preserved and with the greatest tourist volcano potential.

SO 2: Create tourist itineraries and geo-routes that revalue the natural and cultural resources of the Macaronesia volcanoes.

Activity 2.2.1 – Design, creation and revaluation of volcano tourist and landscape itineraries in the Macaronesia region, both in natural and urban areas.

Activity 2.2.2 – Elaboration of the necessary material to strengthen the content of the Macaronesia volcano tourist itineraries (topo-guides, QR codes, panels, apps, etc.).

Activity 2.2.3 – Enhancement of the natural and cultural assets of the Macaronesia volcanoes through the generation of tourism products: cultural, landscape, gastronomy, etc …

SO3: Promote and strengthen training on natural and cultural resources linked to the volcanic phenomenon in the Macaronesia tourism sector.

Activity 2.3.1 – Strengthening programme on the knowledge of the natural and cultural resources linked to the volcanic phenomenon for all the actors involved in tourism.

Activity 2.3.2  – Volcano tourism training program for economic agents in the business sector in the tourism sector.

Activity 2.3.3 – Training and strengthening program on the volcanic phenomenon for tourist guides.
