The partners of the GENERA project will gather on April 3rd and 4th in Athens to discuss project progress and take part in a seminar organized by the University of West Attica on the challenges of energy transition in Greece’s most touristic islands.

The Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER) will take part in the upcoming meeting of the GENERA project, scheduled for April 3rd and 4th in Athens, Greece. This project, co-financed by the European Commission as part of the LIFE Program, brings together partners from Greece, Italy, and Spain to address the challenges of energy transition in Greece’s touristic islands.

During these two days, ITER researchers will travel to the Greek capital to participate in the fourth coordination meeting of the GENERA project. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to attend the seminar “Energy transition in the Touristic Islands: The challenge in Greece.” Organized by the University of West Attica, which is also part of the project consortium, the seminar is aimed at local key stakeholders with the goal of sharing concerns, challenges, and best practices on the path to sustainability.

The seminar, to be held at the “Ancient Olive Grove” Campus of the University of West Attica, will address important topics related to energy transition in Greece’s most touristic islands. It will feature the participation of local experts, such as Michalis Fratzakis, a technician from the urban planning department of the island of Kos, who will present the energy-saving pilot program for the island’s public lighting, and Krokidas Aristóteles, a chemical engineer specialized in liquefied natural gas, who will share his experience in energy generation projects using floating barges, among others.

On April 5th, the fourth consortium meeting of the GENERA project will take place, where the implementation status of project activities will be assessed, and future actions will be planned, such as the Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) program aimed at training public authorities on energy transition topics.

The GENERA project, titled “Revitalizing Energy Transition in Touristic Islands,” is co-financed by the LIFE program and involves partners such as: From Spain, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, as project coordinators, Global Mediterraneo S.L., and the Technological Institute of Renewable Energies; from Greece, UniWA and the South Aegean Region Development Agency READ S.A.; and from Italy, partners UniverCities and Maggioli.
