This visit to ITER is part of the Internationalization Plan for the municipalities of the island promoted by the Tenerife Island Council, aiming to develop actions that attract foreign investment.

The Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER), an entity under the Tenerife Island Council, recently received a visit from 31 technicians from the Local Development Agencies of the municipalities of Tenerife. The purpose was for them to learn about the main activities and lines of research of the institute, as well as to explore the potential of human and material resources to support the development of the municipalities’ internationalization programs.

The day began with a general introduction at ITER´s visitor centre, where the growth and expansion of its activities in technological development and innovation were explained. Since its creation in 1990, ITER has been researching and developing new materials, processes, and technologies. During the tour, municipal technicians had the opportunity to visit various ITER facilities, such as the Genomics laboratory, the D-ALiX datacenter, and the ITER’s supercomputing centre, as well as to learn about its own design and development data acquisition, monitoring, and control system.

The visit is part of the activities program of the Internationalization Plan for the municipalities promoted by the Tenerife Island Council with the aim of promoting commercial exchange and attracting investments on the island. The goal is to involve municipalities in internationalization actions carried out by various administrations and entities, providing specific training to the personnel of the different municipal corporations adhering to it and supporting the actions they can develop in this regard.

The objective of the Internationalization Plan is to have a more competitive and dynamic island in the global scenario, where collaboration between institutions and companies plays a fundamental role in driving economic development and generating opportunities for citizens.
