The event, organized by the HEXAGONE strategic project, brought together entities from the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira and Ghana, Ivory Coast, Gambia and Sao Tome and Principe in Funchal (Madeira) from March 28 to 29, with the aim of promoting cooperation between European regions and the new African countries participating in the INTERREG MAC program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Networking Days included three working groups on different priority topics for the Program, as well as networking sessions among the participating entities.<\/p>\n

M\u00f3nica Alonso L\u00f3pez, representing ITER, participated in the round table \u201cGreen, Blue Economy and Climate Change\u201d, which took place on March 28th, presenting the main areas of work of the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies, the experience of the Institute in the management and implementation of INTERREG MAC projects and its areas of interest for cooperation within the cooperation area. Some of the projects executed and their excellent results were highlighted, such as the MACLAB-PV<\/a>, SOSTURMAC<\/a>, EELABS<\/a>, PLANCLIMAC<\/a>, VOLRISKMAC I<\/a>, VOLRISKMAC II<\/a> and VOLTURMAC<\/a> projects. <\/p>\n

In addition, within the framework of the Awareness Campaign of the MACLAB-PV<\/a> project, ITER reminded the importance of promoting the role of women in science and technology, and promoted the realization of a joint photo of the women participants in the Conference.<\/p>\n

After the presentation, contacts were maintained with numerous entities participating in the Conference, in order to identify projects of shared interest for the next call of the new INTERREG-MAC 2021-2027 program.<\/p>\n

During the event, the Director General for European Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands and Managing Authority of the INTERREG MAC Program, Juli\u00e1n Zafra D\u00edaz, presented the main features of the new EU cooperation program INTERREG-MAC 2021-2027.<\/p>\n

The HEXAGONE initiative, 85% financed by the ERDF and led by the Directorate General for Economic Affairs with Africa of the Government of the Canary Islands, is a strategic project to support the European Union’s Territorial Cooperation Program Interreg Madeira-Azores-Canarias (MAC) 2014-2020, aimed at boosting cooperation with several African countries and promoting the matching of funds from MAC projects with funds from the European Development Fund (EDF).<\/p>\n
