The closing of the Volriskmac II project, co-financed by the INTERREG V-A Spain-Portugal MAC 2014-2020 Cooperation Program, took place in Funchal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan)<\/a><\/strong> and the Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico y de Energ\u00edas Renovables (ITER)<\/strong>, entities dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife, have participated in the final closing meeting of the Volkrismac II<\/a> project (MAC2\/3.5b\/328)<\/strong>, whose objective is to strengthen R&D&I capacities for the development of resilience against volcanic emergencies in Macaronesia.<\/p>\n

The final day took place on29 and 30 November 2023<\/strong> in the city of Funchal in Madeira (Portugal) and brought together representatives of all the project partners, which are the Instituto Volcanol\u00f3gico de Canarias (Involcan), Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico y de Energ\u00edas Renovables (ITER), Instituto das Florestas e Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o da Natureza IP-RAM – IFCN de Madeira, the Centro de Informa\u00e7\u00e3o e Vigil\u00e2ncia Sismovulc\u00e2nica dos A\u00e7ores (CIVISA), Funda\u00e7ao Gaspar Frutuoso FGF of Azores, Instituto de Investiga\u00e7\u00e3o em Vulcanologia e Avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de Riscos IVAR of Azores, and University of Cape Verde (UniCV), the latter as a third country partner (Cape Verde, Mauritania and Senegal) of the MAC 2014-2020 program co-financed by the European Commission. <\/p>\n

The first day was dedicated to the analysis of the activities carried out by each partner, evaluating the progress achieved and presenting the final statement of expenditures. During the following day, led by the local partner Instituto das Florestas e Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o da Natureza (IP-RAM), a field trip was organized to visit different places of geological and geotouristic interest on Madeira Island. <\/p>\n

The Volkrismac II<\/a> project (<\/strong>MAC2\/3.5b\/328)<\/strong> is co-funded by the INTERREG V-A Spain-Portugal Cooperation Program MAC 2014-2020<\/strong> and has the general objective of strengthening R&D&I capacities for the development of resilience against future volcanic emergencies in Macaronesia.<\/p>\n

This project aims to strengthen the volcanic early warning system in Macaronesia through the improvement of instrumental networks and the development and implementation of innovative methodologies, to strengthen the resilience of volcanic monitoring systems in Macaronesia and to generate a collaborative network between the participating partners and national and\/or international R&D institutions of recognized trajectory to strengthen the scientific response to volcanic emergencies in Macaronesia.<\/p>\n
