The initiative is led by the <strong>Cabildo through the Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Energ\u00edas Renovables (ITER)<\/strong> and is part of the projects approved by the steering committee of the <strong>Island Corporation<\/strong> and <strong>UTE Nivaria<\/strong>, which is in charge of waste management on the Island. <\/p>\n<p>The Greenland project seeks to <strong>develop and validate an innovative photovoltaic system designed specifically for waste landfill cells.<\/strong> With a total investment of <strong>1.1 million euros<\/strong>, the initiative aims not only to <strong>reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions<\/strong>, but also to establish an <strong>international benchmark in energy optimization and environmental sustainability of waste complexes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Councilor for Natural Environment, Sustainability and Safety and Emergencies, Blanca P\u00e9rez, points out that \u201cthe reactivation of the waste contract with UTE Nivaria has allowed us to launch a dozen research and innovation projects with an investment of 10 million euros. This will not only allow us to improve management, but also to generate jobs linked to the circular economy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Greenland project is positioned as an example of how R&amp;D&amp;I can transform waste management and energy use in favor of sustainability, contributing not only to the fulfillment of Tenerife&#8217;s environmental objectives, but also to global progress in renewable energy technologies,\u201d explains P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n<p>The Councilor for Innovation, Research and Development, Juan Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ednez, assures that \u201cITER is leading this project that allows the integration of advanced technologies in the use of solar energy in the Environmental Complex of Tenerife. It is an example of the collaboration and transversality between the different departments of the Cabildo that, in this case, aims to find more sustainable solutions, reducing carbon dioxide emissions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, the island&#8217;s Waste Director, Alejandro Molowny, explains that the Greenland project addresses the challenges associated with the installation of photovoltaic systems on complex terrain such as landfill cells. \u201cAdvanced solutions are being developed that prioritize research into innovative materials, panels and structures capable of adapting to uneven terrain and maximizing energy efficiency on limited surfaces,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project foresees the protection of the geomembrane and the stability of the disposal cells, integrating technologies that guarantee the preservation of the environment and the safety of the system; as well as the optimization of the energy design with a focus on advanced storage systems that allow maximizing the use of the energy generated,\u201d explains Molowny.<\/p>\n<p>The Greenland project includes the implementation of a self-consumption energy integration model with storage, designed not only to cover the current needs of the Tenerife Environmental Complex, but also as a basis for future expansions in other areas of the facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Greenland initiative is channeled through the Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Energ\u00edas Renovables and also aims to improve energy efficiency.
