Project summary
D-ALiX is a world category datacenter (TIER III+) that is framed within the ALiX initiative and promoted by the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife (Council of Tenerife). Its infrastructure relies on more than 4500m2 of installation facilities, with more than 2000m2 intended for IT hardware colocation.
It settles as a neutral datacenter that not only serves as a concentration and distribution point of international connectivity, but also as a base infrastructure for local ICT enterprises interested in competing externally o for international enterprises that want to operate in West Africa and benefit from the closeness to Tenerife and it’s European Ultraperipheral condition and therefore of the legal certainty and tax benefits.
Amongst the most relevant characteristics it can be emphasized it’s neutrality, level of reliability, location and access, modularity and energy efficiency.
Its neutral characteristic provides its clients the freedom to choose the carrier they wish. This characteristic, along with the facilities that serve as a submarine cable mooring station, converts D-ALiX in the first neutral submarine cable station in the world.
Regarding its level of reliability, D-ALiX fulfills the level of requirement of the international datacenters’ market by providing TIER III+ category facilities, obtaining the TIER IV configuration in its electrical infrastructure.
One of the distinctive elements of our datacenter is its location. D-ALiX complies with these levels of requirement as it’s situated in the site of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables, next to the Parque Científico y Tecnológico de Granadilla (Scientific and Technological Park of Granadilla), the Reina Sofia airport (Tenerife South) is less than 10km away and the future seaport of Granadilla in the surroundings. It can also be highlighted that there is a second airport, Los Rodeos (Tenerife North), less than one hour away by car and the seaport of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is slightly over 50km away. There is an easy access to the facilities via the TF1 motorway, which makes it convenient for our staff and clients.
D-ALiX has been designed in a completely modular way, so that future expansions can be implemented in the most flexible and effective way. In this way, D-ALiX is set up inside a reinforced industrial building, within the concept of “bunker inside bunker”. This concept, apart from reducing the necessary investments (CAPEX) maintaining the demanded levels of quality, entails in a larger modularity as the datacenter has been designed to assist in a horizontal expansion rather than floor by floor. All this also allows a reduction in operational costs (OPEX).
Lastly, the datacenter is situated in an environmental of renewable energies in the facilities of the ITER, incorporating in its execution project the last trends aimed to increase efficiency and minimize unnecessary energy costs, keeping the high levels of availability and reliability. The integration of photovoltaic solar plants on the roof enables the datacenter to obtain a positive energetic balance. Also, a modular design along with an infrastructure that implements the latest technology with detection and monitoring systems, completely reduces any loss and, at the last time, increases the energy efficiency.
