The awards ceremony, organized annually by the Spanish Association of Energy Management Agencies – EnerAgen, was held in Barcelona on 21 April.

Coinciding with its 25th anniversary, ITER has been recognized the effort and dedication that lends itself to dissemination, education and social awareness on energy issues since its founding in 1990. The initiative “Launch, dissemination and dynamization of the multiplatform game ISLA 100%” has been awarded as the best performance in terms of awareness and dissemination of renewable energy and / or energy efficiency developed in 2015 throughout the national territory, award that has fallen for the first time in the Canary Islands.

This initiative started in the year 2014 with the project “Isla Renovable”, carried out in collaboration with the Tenerife Energy Agency (AIET) and co-financed by FECYT, in which the multiplatform game “Isla 100%” was designed and implemented together with supplementary materials for teachers and were conducted revitalization sessions with students, teachers and CEIPs of the island of Tenerife. Subsequently, the Educational Project “Es posible una isla 100% RENOVABLE?”, co-funded by the CajaCanarias Foundation, has allowed to continue the dissemination work of the tools developed in the Isla Renovable project, expanding the number of beneficiaries.

In the ‘Isla 100%’ game, the player is on a virtual island powered solely by conventional energy sources and must try to increase the input from renewable energies into the electrical system, always meeting the island’s energy demand and at reasonable costs and taking into account socio-economic and environmental aspects. So far, the game has achieve 5,348 downloads (Android and iOS) and 3,000 plays in its online version. In addition, there have been interactive sessions with 5,000 people, including more than 2,100 middle and high school students.

The tools and materials generated have been included in the online community for Science education in Europe SCIENTIX, in the resources catalog of the Environmental Education National Centre and in the educational resources catalog of the Cabildo de Tenerife “Tenerife Educa “. Both the game and the resources are available on the project’s website (http://proyectoislarenovable.iter.es/).

The EnerAgen awards are organized annually by the Spanish Association of Energy Management Agencies. The EnerAgen 2016 awards have recognized the best performances developed in 2015 under three categories: energy efficiency and renewable energies; Dissemination and awareness; and best sustainable action promoted by small municipalities of less than 20,000. The proposals were evaluated by a specialized jury composed of five representatives of recognized prestige in the sectors of politics, technology, academia, journalism and business level, taking into account aspects such as the socio-economic impact, saving, replicability or innovation.
